Shiftee, a workforce management solution provider (CEO Shin Seung-won), announced on the 15th its 2025 work hour analysis based on its internal data collected from January 1 to December 31, 2024.
For the fourth consecutive year, employees are clocking in and out earlier. The average clock-in time in 2024 was 8:44 AM—6 minutes earlier than in 2023. The average clock-out time was 6:19 PM—2 minutes earlier than the previous year. Compared to 2021 when the analysis first began, employees now clock-in 17 minutes earlier and clock-out 10 minutes earlier. Average work hours in 2024 were 9 hours and 51 minutes (including break time), a 3-minute increase from 2023, and a 6-minute increase from 9 hours and 45 minutes in 2021. This increase is attributed primarily to earlier clock-in times, which are shifting more noticeably than clock-out times.
Although employees start work earlier, clock-in times remain consistent across the week: 8:44 AM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, and 8:45 AM on Wednesdays and Thursdays. In contrast, clock-out times vary by weekday. Monday had the latest average clock-out time at 6:22 PM, while Friday had the earliest at 6:10 PM.
The industry with the earliest average clock-in time was construction, at 7:40 AM—29 minutes earlier than its 2023 average of 8:09 AM. Construction also recorded the longest average work hours at 10 hours and 28 minutes (including breaks). However, the industry’s average clock-out time was 5:55 PM, which was faster than the real estate industry (5:44 PM) and business support services (5:53 PM). Manufacturing, which recorded the longest average hours in 2023 at 10 hours and 7 minutes, came in third in 2024 at 10 hours and 10 minutes, following construction (10:28) and education services (10:26). The industry with the shortest average work hours was business support services at 9 hours and 22 minutes, followed by sports and leisure services (9:24) and healthcare and social welfare services (9:32).
Shiftee CEO Shin Seung-won stated, “Work hour management is not only the basis for calculating wages, allowances, and leave, but also a key factor in improving work environments and productivity. For effective management, it is essential that both employers and employees rely on trustworthy systems and accurate time records.”
